Olga Alexandrowna Slawnikowa ( Russian Ольга Александровна Славникова , scientific transliteration Ol'ga Aleksandrovna Slavnikova ; born October 23, 1957 in Sverdlovsk ) is a Russian writer and journalist .

Life

Slavnikova grew up in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg). From 1976 to 1981 she studied journalism at the Urals State University. She worked as the editor of the Ural magazine, where she published her first short stories. She has lived in Moscow with her family since 2003. In 2006 she was awarded the Russian Booker Prize for her novel in 2017 . 2017 tells a love story in the Ural Mountains in the midst of a new revolution, 100 years after the October Revolution . Slawnikowa himself comes from the Urals on the Asian-European border. According to the Russian Booker Prize jury, your love story is “a real novel, not just a small excerpt of life like a story, but life as a whole”. Critics compared the book with the works of Vladimir Nabokov .

For her novel 2017 , Slavnikova was awarded the Russian Booker Prize in 2006. The award was accompanied by a cash prize of US $ 20,000.
