Carinthian month

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carinthian Month is one of the oldest monthly magazines in Austria. It was founded in 1981 by Norbert Sternad, Verena Hellweger, Alfred Astei and Dietmar Pickelsberger as a cultural magazine. Soon, for commercial reasons, the direction of the pages was geared towards scene and lifestyle. Today the magazine reaches around 60,000 readers per month.

Ownership

In 2012, the Styria Media Group sold a majority (74.9 percent) of the month to Moser Holding (including the Tiroler Tageszeitung). Since then he has been part of the "Bundesländerinnen" regional magazine association, which also includes "Die Steierin" (formerly Styrian Month), "Die Tirolerin", "Die Salzburgerin" and "Die Oberösterreicherin".

development

At the beginning of the 1980s, the month was still a thin sheet of paper that appeared 10 times a year. There are now twelve issues a year on glossy paper, which are supplemented by numerous supplements, such as the “Carinthian Doctors Guide” (since 1995) or the “Business Month” (since 2003). In 2005, for example, the monthly team published 30 print products, including a test run of the “Alpe Adria Magazine”, which was marketed throughout Austria as a line extension the following year . The sister product "Steirermonat" has existed since 1999 and was renamed "Die Steirerin" in 2012.

content

The month has changed in recent years from a magazine that brought a little content from all the classic newspaper sections such as politics, economy, culture, sport, etc., to a more clearly structured magazine that covers the Carinthian scene and party reports as well as life in the Alpe Adria puts space into the editorial focus and has withdrawn other content (politics, culture, sport). The magazine is also known for its keen sense of the model sector: internationally successful models such as Melanie Scheriau , Carmen Kreuzer and Astrid Werdnig had their first front page this month. The month is also the only Austrian regional magazine whose reports are regularly quoted by national magazines and newspapers such as Profil, Der Standard , Die Presse or Austria . In 2010, editor-in-chief Wolfgang Kofler - as the first editor-in-chief of a regional magazine - was voted “Magazine Editor-in-Chief of the Year” by the Austrian industry medium “Extradienst”.

staff

The management has been in the hands of Klagenfurt's Norbert Sternad since the beginning, and in 2018 the long-standing advertising manager and authorized signatory Alexander Suppantschitsch was appointed to the management.

Editor-in-chief has been Stefan Jäger ( Kleine Zeitung , Tampa Bay Times ) since 2018 , who returned to journalism after seven years at IRONMAN parent company World Triathlon Corporation . Before him, Wolfgang Kofler (later editor-in-chief ExtraDienst), Ralf Mosser (later editor-in-chief Kärntner Tageszeitung ), Uwe Sommersguter (later editor-in-chief Kärntner Woche ) and Heinz Grötschnig (today editor-in-chief Alpe Adria Magazin), Florian Zusatz and Daniela Hofer worked as editor-in-chief.
