Olga Chorens

Olga Chorens Menéndez (born February 7, 1924 in Havana ) is a Cuban singer.

Chorens began her career as a singer at the age of eleven in the children's program of Radio García Serra . She heard her future musical partner and husband Tony Álvarez (1919-2001) the following year for the first time on the radio show Ritmos del Plata , where he presented tangos as a presenter. Both met as members of the Orquesta Río La Plata and married in 1945. From 1945 to 1950 Chorens toured South America with Álvarez as members of the theater companies of Estrellita Castro and Blanquita Amaro .

After their return to Cuba, they appeared as the duo Olga y Tony for seven years on the daily live program Ronda Musical Coca Cola on Radio Progreso . Once a week they took part in the Caravana Musical , a radio program with the Orquesta Sinfónica under the direction of Enrique González Mántici . In 1951 they presented the daily Show de Olga y Tony , in which they were accompanied by an orchestra that included musicians such as Israel Cachao López , Rolando Laserie and Laíto Castro . They were present on television with the weekly show A las 10 con Olga y Tony .

After stays in Mexico and the USA, she engaged Paquito Cordero in 1965 for the Show de las Doce on the Puerto Rican broadcaster Telemundo , where she appeared with stars such as Chucho Avellanet , Luís Echegoyen and Eddie Miro . After spending a year in Spain, they had a broadcast on Canal 51 in Miami in the early 1980s .

Songs like Linda Caleñita , Mis noches sin ti , Margarita , El Cha cha cha del tren , Volverán las golondrinas , Si te pica el alacrán , Canción de los domingos , Ilusión and Te adoraré became popular . With Tropical Records released the album presentando A Olga y Tony Álvarez CHOREN with the Sonora Matancera . From the marriage of Chorens and Álvarez, the singers Lissette and Olga Álvarez emerged.
