Oliver Eickelberg

Oliver Eickelberg (born May 3, 1968 in Dortmund ) is a German physician and researcher in pulmonology .

Eickelberg is Scientific Director of the Translational Lung Research Center Comprehensive Pneumology Center (CPC), Director of the Institute for Lung Biology at the Helmholtz Center in Munich , Chair for Experimental Pneumology at the University of Munich Hospital (KUM), Director of one of the five locations of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL ) in Munich and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Respiratory Foundation.

Life

Eickelberg studied at the medical faculties of the Universities of Lübeck , Vienna and Basel and received his doctorate in medicine (MD) from the University of Basel .

Eickelberg initially worked as a post-doctoral student at the Department of Medicine in Basel until 1998 , after which he went to the Yale School of Medicine in the USA for 4 years on a Feodor Lynen grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , where he worked in the Department of Pathology conducted research.

In 2002 Eickelberg returned to Germany to take up a position as an assistant professor at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. There he founded and headed the international graduate program Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lungs (MBML) until 2016 . Since November 1, 2016, Eickelberg has headed the "Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine" department at the University of Colorado, USA.

Eickelberg is Associate Editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (AJRCCM), PLoS One , and Scientific Reports . Together with Jürgen Behr, he writes articles about lung diseases in Focus Online .

Eickelberg has been elected chairman of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) congress in Europe for 2014, which took place in Munich in September 2014.
