Oliver Hahn

Oliver Hahn (* 1969 in Hattingen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German journalist , media and communication scientist . He has been a professor at the University of Passau since 2011 .

Life

Oliver Hahn studied Romance studies , theater, film and television studies (TFF) as well as journalism and communication studies at the Ruhr University Bochum . At the same time he completed his journalism studies with a diploma at the Technical University of Dortmund . Between 1992 and 1993 he obtained a grant from the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris with a “License d '?? etudes franco-allemandes”. In 1997 Oliver Hahn received his doctorate with a thesis on the TV station ARTE with the top grade summa cum laude .

Oliver Hahn worked as a journalist in Germany and France. Between 2000 and 2003, he took on a teaching position for the first time at the Institute for Communication Science at the TU Dresden , which was subsequently expanded to a visiting professorship . This was followed by teaching at the Ruhr University, parallel to working as a research fellow at the Erich Brost Institute of the TU Dortmund, where he also participated in the EU project " Adequate Information Management in Europe ".

Since October 2005, Oliver Hahn has been a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Europe (formerly Business and Information Technology School ) in Iserlohn , where he worked full-time from April 1, 2006. In May 2006 he received the professorship . Hahn was vice dean in the "Media & Communication" department and head of the "Journalism & Business Communication" course. In the summer semester 2011 he moved to the University of Passau , where he took over the newly created professorship for journalism. His main research interests include international journalism cultures and media systems, foreign correspondents and crisis communication.

Oliver Hahn is a media science advisor to the Institute for Foreign Relations and the Federal Foreign Office . He also co-founded The Arab-European Media Observatory in Egypt and Germany.
