Oliver Jahn

Oliver Jahn (* 1969 in Oldenburg ) is a German film director , screenwriter , producer and actor . He became known with the science fiction television series Ijon Tichy: Raumpilot , in which he not only played the title hero, but also co-produced, co-directed and wrote the scripts.

He was awarded the German Television Prize and nominated twice for the Grimme Prize .

Life

Oliver Jahn was born in Oldenburg in 1969 and grew up near Frankfurt am Main . After finishing school and doing community service , Jahn trained as a communications and information technician at the University of Giessen . Until 1994 he was u. a. active as an independent entrepreneur in the field of electronics development and production.

In 1995, Jahn began studying visual communication at the Berlin University of the Arts . After completing his intermediate diploma, he moved to the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin in 1997 . There he studied directing. In addition to his studies, Jahn worked as an editor .

Together with his fellow students Randa Chahoud and Dennis Jacobsen , Jahn made two short films inspired by Stanisław Lem in 1999 and 2000 . From 2006–2011, the team realized the 14-part science fiction satire Ijon Tichy: Raumpilot based on these two films for ZDF . Part of the series was shot in Jahn's apartment, which served as a film set and depicts the inside of Ijon Tichy's rocket.

In 2007 Jahn again shot the movie Die Eisbombe in cooperation with ZDF , which celebrated its international premiere in 2008 at the Shanghai Film Festival and was released in German cinemas on August 7, 2008.

The sequel to Ijon Tichy, co-produced by Jahn, followed immediately afterwards: Raumpilot. The production time was over three years and Jahn again took on the lead role as "Ijon Tichy" in addition to co-directing and co-authoring. The second season was seen from November 2011 first on ZDFneo and then on ZDF.

In 2013, the asteroid 343000 of the main outer belt was officially renamed "Ijon Tichy". The name was inspired by the main character Ijon Tichy portrayed by Oliver Jahn in the series Ijon Tichy: Raumpilot . The discoverers of the minor planet submitted the proposed name “Ijon Tichy” to the responsible “Committee on Small Body Nomenclature (CSBN)”. After a positive decision by this committee consisting of 16 international professional astronomers, the name was recognized and published by the International Astronomical Union. In the same year the asteroid 343444 was christened "Hallucinelle" after the series character, portrayed by Nora Tschirner .

In 2012, Oliver Jahn built a Unimog into an expedition vehicle to go on a world tour. In March 2013 he started his journey in Nova Scotia / Canada and drove over 70,000 kilometers through 16 countries along the Panamericana to Tierra del Fuego.
