Olivia Dussek
Olivia Francisca Buckley-Dussek (* around 1799 in London (according to other information: September 29, 1801); † December 24, 1847 there ) was an English pianist , harpist and composer . She is the daughter of the Bohemian composer Johann Ladislaus Dussek (originally: Dusik) and the singer, pianist and harpist Sophia Corri .
life and work
Olivia Francisca was born in London as the only child of the Dussek couple. Various dates of birth between 1797 and 1801 are given in reference works. But the birth, if Jan Ladislav Dusík was actually the biological father, could hardly have been after 1799, since Dusík fled to Hamburg at the end of 1799 after his music publisher, which he founded with his father-in-law Domenico Corri (1733–1825) went bankrupt returned. The mother raised her child alone, teaching him both harp and piano, and organizing public appearances for the child. At the age of 8 she gave her first concerts in London. Not yet of legal age, she married William Richard Buckley, whose son Richard Buckley later became an important translator a. a. should be from Homer . In addition to raising 10 children and her duties as a mother and housewife, she also led an active musical life: she performed in concerts, gave lessons and was the organist at Kensington Parish Church for the last 7 years of her life .
Under the synonym OBDussek (she almost never used her second first name Francisca) she published compositions for the harp with the title The Harpist's Friend - Meant for the women in the Victorian era who played the harp in their parents' salons should meet. She also released some vocal works called Fairy Songs and Ballads for the Young . However, in almost 25 years, 10 children, daily, hours-long, often compulsive music-making and their work as housewives have taken their toll; she died at the age of just 48.
