Olivia Gallay (* 2. January 1989 in Evian-les-Bains as Olivia Bertrand ) is a former French alpine skier . Her specialty was the giant slalom .

Career

Bertrand started in FIS races for the first time in November 2004 . In January 2005 she drove her first race in the European Cup . She achieved her first European Cup victory in the second giant slalom in Ål on December 4th, 2006, after having finished second the day before. In the 2006/07 season she reached third place in the giant slalom ranking. From 2006 to 2009 she took part in the Junior World Championships, her best result was fourth place in the giant slalom in Altenmarkt in 2007 .

Bertrand made her debut in the World Cup on December 15, 2006 in the super combination on the Reiteralm , just two weeks later she was ranked 18th in the giant slalom in Semmering and won her first World Cup points. She could not repeat this result for the time being, because in the following two years she came in only two races in the top 30. On January 25, 2009, however, she reached twelfth place in the giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo , and thus her best for the time being Result in the world cup. On November 28, 2009 she finished twelfth again in the giant slalom in Aspen .

In her first participation in the World Championships in Åre in 2007 , Bertrand achieved 17th place in the giant slalom, two years later she reached 13th place in Val-d'Isère . In 2006 and 2009 she was French Super-G Champion . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she finished twelfth in the giant slalom. Due to a shin injury, Bertrand could not take part in any races during the entire 2010/11 season. Since their marriage in June 2011, she competed under her new surname Gallay, but after her injury she was unable to participate in any competitions in the 2011/12 season. Finally, in December 2012, she announced her resignation.
