Olle Persson (information scientist)
Olle Persson (born June 17, 1949 in Luleå ) is a Swedish information scientist .
Life
Olle Persson studied at Umeå University and obtained the Ph.D. degree in 1980. in sociology . In 1999 he was appointed to the chair for library and information science (Department of Sociology) and headed the Inforsk research group (Information Research Group) until his retirement .
Persson has made important contributions to the development of quantitative bibliometric techniques, with the focus of his work being the analysis of scientific communication between scientists and engineers. He also developed the BibExcel toolbox as freeware for the analysis of bibliographic data.
In 2011 Olle Persson received the Derek John de Solla Price Award from Scientometrics magazine .
