The Olsen Fashion GmbH is a German trading company for ladies wear based in Hamburg . The company has been owned by Nord Holding since December 2016 .

history

Former Olsen company headquarters in Hamburg

The Olsen company has been family-owned since 1901 and was founded by the Hamburg businessman Alfred L. Wolff , who produced and traded food ingredients and additives worldwide.

In 1959 his son Manfred Wolff with the import of pullovers from the Far East, thus laying the foundation for the division fashion. Wolff later built up various collections that were still sold without brand names.

The wool sweater with item number P31 has sold over a million times. In 1995 the Olsen brand was launched. The English newspaper Drapers Record presented Olsen with the Fashion Retail Award: “Brand of the Year 1997”.

In 1998 Olsen received the gold medal in "Best woman's suit" of the Poznan International Fair Ltd. at the international fashion fair in Poznań (Poland). for the best exhibitor of the Polish Fashion Week.

On January 1, 2000, Olsen GmbH & Co. KG was founded as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wolff & Olsen Holding-Gesellschaft with the fashion division and partner stores were opened in Moscow , Riga , Vienna and Dubai in the same year .

In 2004 the issuing of licenses for bags, handkerchiefs and belts began.

In 2004, Olsen opened its first showroom in France .

In 2005 the first Olsen store opened in Toronto .

In 2010, Olsen took over the trouser specialist Rosner under the umbrella of the Wolff & Olsen Group.

The fashion company Olsen GmbH & Co. KG recently employed more than 600 people worldwide and was represented in 30 countries. Olsen had 79 stores of its own and was offered in around 3000 boutiques and fashion houses worldwide.

In autumn 2013, corporate insolvency proceedings were opened for Wolff & Olsen Fashion GmbH & Co. KG and affiliated companies. At the end of November 2013, the Olsen brand was taken over by the Dutch-Swiss Veldhoven Group.

In December 2016, Olsen was sold by Veldhoven to the financial investor Nord Holding. Michael Simon is reappointed as managing director.

Products

The knitwear / shirt collections are complemented by blazers, skirts, pants, blouses, outdoor, bags and accessories.

Olsen GmbH & Co.KG, which has been insolvent since autumn 2013, supported textile projects around the world together with the children's aid organization Plan International through the initiative “Empowering Women Worldwide”. The first project started in Vietnam in 2008 . In cooperation with the women from the Vietnamese village of Van Ly, the Double Happiness Collection was created there. Rice farmers have refined their traditional art of embroidery and given a limited edition collection a personal touch. The parts of the collection are embroidered with the old Vietnamese characters for "double happiness". The second textile project took place in India in 2009.
