The light heavyweight boxing matches at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin took place from August 10 to 15 in the Deutschlandhalle .

Course of the competition

In the light heavyweight division there was no clear favorite at the beginning of the tournament. In the first round there was already the first surprise when the champion of the United States Carl Vinciquerra , who was traded as one of the favorites to win the Olympic gold, lost on points against the previously unknown Egyptian Mohammed Amin and was therefore eliminated from the tournament early.

Roger Michelot from France, who had finished fourth in the middleweight division in Los Angeles four years earlier, also competed in the light heavyweight division. However, he only intervened in the quarter-finals and won his fight against the Danish Børge Holm . With another victory in the semifinals over Robey Leibbrandt from the South African Union, he was able to move into the final.

In the final, the French competed against the German Richard Vogt . At first it seemed as if Vogt would win the fight. He dominated the fight with his greater range in the first round and won it clearly. But Michelot built on his experience and took the lead. Michelot faltered in the last seconds of the fight when he took a blow from the German, but he was able to win the fight. In the battle for bronze, Leibbrandt could not compete due to an injury from his semi-final fight , which is why his opponent Francisco Risiglione from Argentina won the bronze medal without a fight.
