The men's light heavyweight boxing competition (up to 81 kg) at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from July 30th to August 12th, 2012 in the Exhibition Center London . 26 boxers took part.

The competition was carried out in a knockout system . It started with the 1st round, which included 32 starting places. Since only 26 boxers qualified, six athletes byes were drawn. The winners made it to the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The winners of the semifinals competed for the gold medal, both losers received the bronze medal.

The outcome of the fight between Indian Sangwan and Brazilian Florentino, brother of middleweight silver medalist Esquiva F. Florentino , caused controversy. The Indian team felt they were being disadvantaged, and Sports Minister Ajay Maken lodged an official protest, which was unsuccessful.
