For the first time in history, a women's slalom competition in alpine skiing was held at the 1948 Winter Olympics on February 5 in the Corviglia ski area . The race consisted of two runs, from which both times were added.

The American Gretchen Fraser , who won the silver medal in the Alpine Combined the day before , became the Olympic champion . Antoinette Meyer from Switzerland took silver and the Austrian Erika Mahringer received bronze .
