For the first time in history, a men's slalom competition in alpine skiing was held at the 1948 Winter Olympics in the Corviglia ski area on February 5 . The race consisted of two runs, from which both times were added.

The Swiss Edy Reinalter became Olympic champion . Silver and bronze went to the French James Couttet and Henri Oreiller . The Austrian Hans Hinterholzer fell during the race, overturning and flying into the audience.
