Guðmundur S. Th. Guðmundsson (born May 1, 1920 in Akureyri ; † January 9, 2007 in Fossvogur ) was an Icelandic ski racer .
Career
Guðmundur Guðmundsson was born as the son of Guðmundur Friðrik Guðmundsson and Kristín Árnadóttir in the northern Icelandic town of Akureyri and grew up in Siglufjörður . Guðmundur was a versatile winter sportsman. He won Icelandic championships in cross-country skiing , ski jumping , snowboarding and Nordic combined . At the Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz in 1948 , Guðmundur took part in the downhill race on February 2 , which he finished after 4: 57.0 min as 98th of 111 runners who had started. Two days later in the slalom competition , the Icelander reached 59th place after two runs among 67 participants (2: 09.4 min and 1: 45.2 min). In the combined ranking, which was a point addition of the downhill runs and the two slalom runs, Guðmundur finished 67th as the worst Icelander (behind Magnús Brynjólfsson and Þórir Jónsson ) with 105.11 points.
Guðmundur Guðmundsson worked in Akureyri and the capital Reykjavík as a worker , farmer and taxi driver , later he studied fishing and worked in Höfn . He was married three times and had five children. Guðmundur died at the age of 86 in the National University Hospital of Fossvogur near Reykjavík.
