The men's downhill in alpine skiing at the 1948 Winter Olympics was held on February 2 in the Corviglia ski area . The times were also counted as times for the Alpine Combination .

The Olympic champion was the French Henri Oreiller , who was four seconds faster than the silver medalist Franz Gabl from Austria. The Swiss Karl Molitor and Rolf Olinger landed in third place at the same time.
