The men's downhill in alpine skiing at the 1956 Winter Olympics was held on February 3 at the Olimpia delle Tofane .

The difference in altitude between start and finish was 902 meters and was 3.461 kilometers long. Olympic champion was Toni Sailer from Austria, ahead of Raymond Fellay from Switzerland and his compatriot Andreas Molterer .
