Career

Hammerer began skiing as a teenager. The Vorarlberg native from Kleinwalsertal attended business school in Oberstdorf, Swabia , and became a Swabian master in 1944 and 1945. In 1946 she achieved second place in the combined ranking at the Austrian country meeting in Eisenerz with two third places in downhill and slalom. In the same year she also managed her first victory in the downhill of the Gamperney Derby in Grabs .

In the winter of 1946/47 Hammerer won the downhill and the combined in the races for the White Ribbon in St. Moritz , came second in the downhill from Grabs and Austrian champion in slalom. In the 1947/48 season, the Vorarlbergerin reached two third places in the downhill and combined of the west cup in Lech . In the combination she fell back to 12th place after a failed combined slalom (17th place).

In the winter of 1948/49 Hammerer won the Hahnenkamm descent from Kitzbühel and came in second in slalom and combined. She also came second in St. Anton in the slalom and the combination of the Arlberg-Kandahar races , and came third in the downhill.
