Gretchen Fraser
Gretchen Fraser (born February 11, 1919 in Tacoma , Washington , USA ; † February 17, 1994 in Sun Valley , Idaho ; born Gretchen Kunigk ) was an American ski racer .
She won the gold medal in slalom at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , which also counted as world championships . This made her the first American woman in alpine skiing to win a gold medal in skiing. In the combination she could win the silver medal. She was already married at her Olympic appearance, which she performed in long braids.
In the 1930s and 1940s, she worked as a ski stunt woman , for example for Sonja Henie in the films Thin Ice and Adoptierter Glück ( Sun Valley Serenade ).
Gretchen Fraser died at a time when the 1994 Winter Games were being played in Lillehammer .
