Omar Gerardo Garrido Mendoza , also Omar G. Garrido , (* in Mexico City ) is a Mexican - German opera and concert singer ( tenor / baritone ).

Life

Omar Garrido studied singing at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City with the Mexican prima donna Irma Gonzalez. During his studies he was already engaged as a soloist at the Mexican opera Bellas Artes . There he sang between 1993 and 1999 mainly roles from the role of the lyrical baritone , including Belcore in L'elisir d'amore , Papageno in Die Zauberflöte , Malatesta in Don Pasquale , Valentin in Faust and Figaro in The Barber of Seville . He occasionally took on more dramatic baritone roles, such as Giorgio Germont in La traviata . After seven years of professional baritone career in Mexico, he switched to tenor.

He made his debut as a tenor in 1999 in Mexico City with the role of Canio in I Pagliacci . In 2000 he came to Germany . In the 2000/01 season he was a permanent soloist at the Altenburg-Gera Theater. There he sang Count Stanislaus in The Bird Trader (2000), Rodolfo in La Bohème and Duke of Mantua (Duca) in Rigoletto (both 2001). In 2002 he appeared at the Altenburg-Gera Theater as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor ; In 2003 he performed this role at the Landestheater Coburg .

Garrido has appeared several times as a soloist at the Bad Hersfeld Festival , for example in 2005 as Ferrando in Così fan tutte , in 2007 as Marquis of Chateauneuf in Zar und Zimmermann and in 2012 as Duke of Mantua (Duca) in Rigoletto .

In 2008/09 he sang the role of Ferrando in Così fan tutte in the Pasinger Fabrik . In 2009/10 he appeared at the Opernwerkstatt am Rhein as Don José in Carmen in a version for flamenco guitar and gypsy orchestra. In the 2013/14 season he was engaged as a guest at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg , where he took on the role of the dealer Isacco in the Rossini opera La gazza ladra .

In the meantime, Garrido is again working as a baritone, as at the beginning of his career. His baritone repertoire, which he mainly sings at concerts, includes Giorgio Germont, Belcore, Dr. Malatesta, Valentin, Figaro ( The Barber of Seville ), Papageno, and meanwhile also Tonio in I Pagliacci , Escamillo in Carmen , Marcello in La Boheme , the title role in Rigoletto and Slook in La cambiale di matrimonio .

As a soloist he has appeared in Germany (Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Bonn, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Cologne, Düsseldorf), Austria (Vienna; Karlskirche) and Switzerland , the United States (Washington DC), Mexico, Japan (Tokyo; Fukushima Music Hall), Italy and Spain .

Garrido also works as a concert singer. Among other things, he sang the tenor solo in Beethoven's 9th Symphony (2000; Theater Altenburg-Gera), the tenor solos in the Petite Messe Solennelle (Leipzig, Bad Mergentheim, Haßfurt), in the Messa di Gloria by Giacomo Puccini (2000, Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra ), in the Mozart Requiem and in the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramírez .

In 2001 he took up residence in Würzburg . Since then he has appeared as a freelance singer at concerts, song recitals (including Neapolitan folk music ), music galas and various opera tour productions.
