Omelnyk ( Ukrainian Омельник ; Russian Омельник Omelnik ) is a village in the north of the Ukrainian Oblast of Zaporizhia with about 500 inhabitants (2004).
Omelnyk is the center of the 77.9 km² district council of the same name in Orichiv Raion , to which the villages Svoboda ( Свобода ), Chervonyj Yar ( Червоний Яр ) and Schyroke ( Широке ) belong.
The village is located on the bank of the Scherebez ( Жеребець ), a 55 km long tributary of the Kinska and at the intersection of the territorial roads T – 08–14 and T – 04–08 . Omelnyk is located 67 km southeast of the Zaporizhia Oblast center and 12 km northeast of the Orichiv district center .
Personalities
The Soviet energy technician and chief developer of graphite-moderated nuclear reactors Nikolai Antonowitsch Dolleschal , who was involved in the construction of the Soviet atomic bomb, was born in the village in 1899 .
