Omer Nishani (born February 5, 1887 in Gjirokastra , † May 26, 1954 ) was an Albanian politician.

life and career

Nishani was from Gjirokastra . During the Second World War he was an anti-fascist theorist. He was chairman of the 118-person Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation , which was elected as a transitional parliament by the Përmet Congress in May 1944 , and thus de facto President of liberated Albania. From 1944 to 1946 he was Foreign Minister and 1946 Chairman of the Presidium of the Constituent Assembly ( Asamblea Kushtetuese ) , then from 1946 to 1953 as President of the People's Assembly, the first head of state in the People's Republic of Albania after the Second World War. In 1947 he represented Albania at an Allied consultation in Paris . His successor as head of state was Haxhi Lleshi . In 1954 he committed suicide .
