The organization
The OMNIBUS for Direct Democracy gGmbH sees itself as a research and development company of direct democracy. The initiative aims to create instruments with which each individual can take responsibility for shaping the community at all levels.
The OMNIBUS company supports municipal petitions and referendums as well as popular initiatives , petitions and referendums at the state level. In addition, OMNIBUS advocates the introduction of nationwide referendums based on the model of the three-stage popular legislation .

The artist Joseph Beuys was an important impulse for the initiative . Beuys brought the term “referendum” from the field of art into the public discussion and declared shaping the community to be the greatest challenge that we all face together in a democracy.
The partner and co-founder of OMNIBUS for direct democracy gGmbH is Johannes Stüttgen , long-time employee and master student of Joseph Beuys. The company's headquarters are in Hattingen .
In addition to the ongoing work for the introduction of the nationwide referendum, OMNIBUS pursues other projects such as "vote on basic income" or schools in freedom.
