Ondenval ( German  Niedersteinbach ) is a district of the municipality Weismes ( French officially Waimes ) in East Belgium , Province of Liège , with a predominantly French-speaking population, but with language facilities for the minority of the German-speaking population. Weismes and the municipality of Malmedy form the canton of Malmedy .

Ondenval, the southernmost village in the municipality, is located in the valley of the rû de Steinbach , one kilometer above its confluence with the Amel . According to legend, the millstone in front of the church was made by the sotais du Waud (dwarfs who are said to have lived in the wooded area on the opposite slope on the Amel). There in Wolfsbusch there is a arkose - quarry where already the Celts were made time millstones.

The Faye nature reserve between Ondenval and Thirimont is well worth seeing . In addition to heathland, there is a former and now flooded quarry. The route of the old Vennbahn runs from Weismes to St. Vith on the slope between Ondenval and the Steinbach quarry . The first RAVeL -weg, also known as the Vennbahnradweg , was set up on the track bed in the municipality of Weismes and integrated into the junction system of the cycle paths.
