One Court Square , also known as Citigroup Building , is a skyscraper in New York City located in the borough of Queens . The building is named after its address, which is 1 Court Square . Another name is Citigroup Building, but it should not be confused with the Citigroup Center, also located in New York .
The 50-story structure was completed in 1990. It was planned by the large architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . The building, which shimmers in a blue-green tone, is 201 meters high. This made it the tallest building in the borough of Queens and the tallest in New York City outside of Manhattan until January 2020 , when the Skyline Tower in the immediate vicinity took over this title. It remains the second tallest building on Long Island .
Citigroup originally had the building built, but later sold it. This is where the middle name Citigroup Building comes from .
