One From the Vault is a live album by the band Grateful Dead .

history

The recordings of One From the Vault are from the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on August 13, 1975 , but the album itself was not released until April 15, 1991. Shortly before the gig, the album Blues for Allah was released, which was the first album with Mickey Hart after a five-year hiatus. It was both the first live performance with Hart and the first time that the songs of Blues for Allah were played live. As a result, these songs are also preserved on this album.

With this album, the aim was to take care of the fans ( deadheads ) who have always created bootlegs in the so-called taping areas at concerts and swapped them among each other and distributed them. Since the Grateful Dead themselves had high quality recordings of their concerts (including this one), they decided to release them under their own label, Grateful Dead Records , as they were sure it would be well received by their fans. The band turned away from studio albums after the failed album Built to Last , which was to be their last album.

The album itself was the first from the Vault series (albums with old concert recordings) and above all aroused the interest of fans in further albums in the series without celebrating any major successes, even if it was rated well by Rolling Stone . Fan boot legs from the album can still be found under the name Urubouros Deedni Mublasaron .

The album was produced by the Dead sound engineer Dan Healy. He wrote a short note about the album to introduce the idea of the Vault series:

"When we completed the recording and mixing of the Blues For Allah studio album at Weir's studio, which this album was the maiden voyage for, we gathered up our instruments and equipment and moved to the Great American Music Hall. The idea was to perform live to the world, for the first time, Blues For Allah in celebration of not only the completion of the album but also the beginning of Grateful Dead Records. While this recording is one of the most widely collected, not until now has there been a high quality good sounding mix released. This represents the beginning of the release of the vault tapes. More To Come. "

In 2007 a revised version of the album was released by Rhino Records and Grateful Dead Records for the limited box set The Vault Box , from three albums in the Vault series.
