The low-lying goose clover ( Cytisus decumbens ), also called yellow creeping gorse or pillow gorse, is a species of the goose clover ( Cytisus ) in the subfamily of the butterflies (Faboideae).

description

The low-lying goat clover is a 10 to 30 cm high shrub with low-lying or ascending, branched branches that are slightly angular and hairy. The alternate, almost sedentary leaves are entire, ovate and up to 20 mm long. The underside is hairy protruding. Stipules are absent.

The one to four flowers sit together in the leaf axils. The flowers are stalked, the stalks reach two to four times the length of the calyx when in full bloom. The calyx is scattered, protruding hairy, bell-shaped and deeply two-lipped with short teeth of different lengths. The crown is 12 to 16 mm long and yellow. The flag and boat are bare, the boat is as long as the flag and wing together. The densely hairy legume is 20 to 40 mm long. Flowering time is from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

Occurrence

This species occurs from the Pyrenees to the Balkans , as well as in the southern Jura , in the southern Alps and in the Apennines . It is mainly found in the montane altitude range, up to altitudes of 1500 m. Here it colonizes dry and semi-arid grasslands, also forest edges on calcareous subsoil. In Switzerland, this species is classified as critically endangered on the Red List of Threatened Species, the causes are bush cover and intensive grazing. In terms of plant sociology, it is a species of the order Brometalia in Central Europe.

Taxonomy

The low-lying goat clover was first described in 1782 by Jean François Durande under the name Spartium decumbens . Édouard Spach transferred it to the genus Cytisus in 1845 . Cytisus decumbens ( Durande ) Spach is placed within the genus Cytisus in the section Corothamnus ( WDJ Koch ) Nyman . Further synonyms are: Corothamnus decumbens ( Durande ) K. Koch , Genista decumbens ( Durande ) Willd. , Genista prostrata Lam. , Genista pedunculata L'Hér. , Genista pedunculata L'Hér. subsp. decumbens ( Durande ) chamois .

Cytisus decumbens subsp. pindicola ( Bald. ) KI Chr. (Syn .: Cytisus decumbens var. pindicola ( Bald. ) Hayek , Corothamnus medius ( Halácsy ) Skalická , Cytisus medius Halácsy ) is a clan bound to serpentinite in Epirus (Greece) with young dense hairy hairs , ripe bald legumes.
