Ontake
Ontake is the name of a series of mountains in Japan . However, there are different spellings for the name “Ontake” in Japanese , the most common of which is 御 岳山 . The last character with the meaning "mountain" is read sometimes "san" and sometimes "yama".
Since several pronunciations are possible for Japanese characters , there are also mountains whose names are also written with the characters “ 御 岳 ”, but read “Otake”, “Mitake”, “Midake” or “Mitaki”. In detail these are:

- The religious sites of the Ryūkyū Islands are also known as Ontake , but the more common name is Utaki .
- Ontake-kyō ( 御 嶽 教 ) is a Shinto sect . However, it has to do with the aforementioned Mount Ontake in Nagano Prefecture and not with the cult of the Ryūkyūs.
