The Onychothemis is the only genus of dragonflies of the subfamily Onychothemistinae from the family of the sailing dragonflies . The distribution area of ​​their five species extends over Southeast Asia .

The medium-sized animals are robustly built. Your abdomen is brightly colored. In contrast to this, her chest ( thorax ) has a shiny metallic dark. The veins on their wings are highly developed.
