Oostrum ( West Frisian Eastrum ) is a village in the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân in the Dutch province of Friesland . It is located just a few kilometers east of Dokkum and has 190 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
history
Oostrum was built on a terp on which a medieval church was later built. The terp has already been partially removed. In this terp on February 6th, 2006 remains of settlements of the funnel cup culture were found. Archaeological research has shown that the remains of the settlement date from 3400 to 2840 BC. Must come from BC.
The remains are hundreds of pottery, worn flint stones , stone tools and waste that was created when grinding flint stones. This suggests that the area around Oostrum was inhabited early on.
There was a brick factory in Oostrum until 1968 .
