OpTecBB

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Optec-Berlin-Brandenburg e. V. (OpTecBB) is the competence network for optical technologies in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg . OpTecBB was founded on September 14, 2000 by companies, research institutes, universities and associations with the support of the responsible state ministries of Brandenburg and the Senate of Berlin . OpTecBB is part of the strategy process that began with the development of the “German Agenda for Optical Technologies for the 21st Century” and included the creation of competence networks for optical technologies as an important element.

Main activities

OpTecBB and its members have the following goals:

  • to bundle and network the potential available in the region in the field of optical technologies
  • to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology from research to companies
  • Initiate R&D projects and enter into collaborations
  • to create a platform for information and communication
  • to organize joint marketing activities and trade fair appearances in order to promote the company and the region
  • to represent optical technologies in relation to politics and associations
  • to inform and advise the state governments and business development agencies

Technological focus

OpTecBB currently has the following priorities, which also describe the competencies and thus the specific profile of Berlin and Brandenburg in the scientific and industrial landscape of Germany:

The professional work of OpTecBB is based on the specific competencies, strengths and requirements of the region.

Highlights

New project of the Zukunftsfonds Berlin: 100 megabits per second for 100 million users

Since 2005, the demands for higher data rates of fiber optic-based communication systems of up to 100 gigabits per second and per channel have been discussed and standardization projects are being pushed forward. Against this background, the new research project 100 × 100 Optics was launched. In addition to the TU Berlin (Institute for Solid State Physics) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications (Heinrich Hertz Institute), a medium-sized company (U2T Photonics AG) is also involved in this project. This guarantees an efficient transfer of know-how in innovative products.

Potsdam Center for Innovation Competence "innoFSPEC"

The initiative from Brandenburg prevailed in the BMBF program “Center for Innovation Competence”. The Center for Fiber Optic Spectroscopy and Sensor Technology ( innoFSPEC Potsdam ) receives five-year federal funding. The initiators Martin Roth , Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) and Hans-Gerd Löhmannsröben , University of Potsdam , have set up two junior research groups for internationally competitive cutting-edge research in the field of optics and photonics. For the first time, the AIP, the University of Potsdam, OpTecBB and medium-sized companies in the region are working together on a project that connects science and business.
