Open cirrus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Open Cirrus is one of 2008 HP , Intel and Yahoo , founded initiative that has set itself the goal of a complete research purposes open source - cloud computing to develop -Stack.

Motivation and Goals

The starting point was the situation that only the large cloud computing operators such as Google , Microsoft , Amazon or Yahoo have access to large, distributed data centers for developing and testing new systems and services , while most researchers have to fall back on simulations or small clusters . With Open Cirrus it should be possible to access software and hardware at a lower level , for example to install operating systems, to be able to access hardware functions directly or to operate daemons . In addition, the project consists of heterogeneous locations all over the world in order to be able to use several different data centers.

Open Cirrus aims to promote the development of new cloud computing applications and research at the application level. The platform should also be available for real-world applications.

Furthermore, Open Cirrus provides a collection of experimental data that are necessary to carry out high quality research.

In order to promote the further diffusion of cloud computing, Open Cirrus is developing an open source cloud computing stack and associated, non-proprietary APIs .
