Ophiocordyceps jiangxiensis is a parasitic fungus -type from the order of crust ball mushroom-like , which in certain beetle species parasite.
features
Macroscopic features
The stroma grows solitary or in tufts and sometimes branches out of the carcass of the host larva. It is cylindrical, 40 to 90 millimeters high and 5 millimeters wide. Usually a sterile tail-like tip is not formed. The actual fruiting bodies, the perithecia, are very small and are densely clustered in the middle or upper part of the stroma. These are elongated ovoid and measure 520 to 600 × 300 micrometers.
Microscopic features
The tubes (Asci) are 6 micrometers in size with a compressed spherical lid, which in turn is 2.4 to 3 × 1.8 to 2.2 micrometers in size. The spores are long, cylindrical, with many septa, and are 1 to 1.2 micrometers thick. Each single cell is 5.5 to 7.5 micrometers in size. They do not break into partial spores.
Ecology and diffusion

Ophiocordyceps jiangxiensis parasitizes on larvae of at least two species of the click beetle genus Campsosternus , from the subfamily Denticollinae , such as Campsosternus auratus and Campsosternus fruhstorfi .
The species is common in China in the provinces of Jiangxi , Fujian , Guizhou and Hunan .
meaning
Ophiocordyceps jiangxiensis is among other ophiocordycipitaceae used in Chinese medicine. It is used by the local population for external treatment of snakebites. D- mannitol , an isomer of quinic acid with a polyol structure, is the suspected main active ingredient.
Systematics
Ophiocordyceps jiangxiensis was first described as Cordyceps jiangxiensis in 2001 by the Chinese mycologists ZQ Liang , AY Liu and Yong C. Jiang . In 2007 the core clubs were divided into three genera in two different families by Sung Gi-ho , Sung Jae-mo , Nigel L. Hywel-Jones and Joseph W. Spatafora . Ophiocordyceps jiangxiensis is part of the Ophiocordycipitaceae. The species name refers to the site of the first description, Jiangxi Province .
