Opuntia bisetosa is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet bisetosa means '(Latin bisetosus) double-bristled'.
description
Opuntia bisetosa grows shrubby, branching from the base and reaches heights of up to 1.2 meters. The light green, egg-shaped to elongated shoot sections are up to 36 inches long and 18 inches wide. The leaf rudiments on them are 4 to 5 millimeters long. The areoles are 3 to 4 millimeters apart. The single central spine is twisted protruding, needle-like and up to 5 centimeters long. The eight to ten strong radial spines are white.
The yellow flowers reach a length of up to 6.5 centimeters and a diameter of 5 centimeters. The fruits are up to 5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.2 centimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Opuntia bisetosa is common in Venezuela in the state of Lara .
It was first described in 1936 by Henri François Pittier .
Opuntia bisetosa is not well known.
