Opuntia littoralis is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet littoralis means 'shore, beach, coast-loving, -inhabiting'. English common names are "Coastal Prickly Pear" and "Sprawling Prickly Pear".

Opuntia littoralis grows shrubby, is spread out to somewhat upright, reaches heights of growth of 30 to 60 centimeters and becomes up to 1 meter and more wide. The glaucous- green, obovate to elliptical to circular shoot sections are 7 to 30 centimeters long and 5 to 10 centimeters wide. The areoles are 1.5 to 3 centimeters apart. The yellow, ocher or brown glochids are up to 4.5 millimeters long. There are one to eleven spread to bent back, straight to curved, brown, ocher, gray or yellow thorns , which are rarely missing. The thorns are 2.5 to 7 inches long.
The flowers are yellow with a red or magenta base, or occasionally pinkish purple or magenta in color. They reach a length of 5 to 7.5 centimeters and the same diameter. The obovate reddish to reddish purple-colored fruits are fleshy. They are up to 4 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.5 to 3.8 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Opuntia littoralis is found in the United States in the southern part of the state of California and in the Mexican states of Baja California and Baja California Sur at altitudes of 10 to 400 meters.
The first description as Opuntia engelmannii var. Littoralis was in 1876 by George Engelmann . Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell raised the variety to the rank of a species in 1905. A nomenclature synonym is Opuntia lindheimeri var. Littoralis (Engelm.) JMCoult. (1896).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
