Opuntia rufida is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rufida (from Latin rufidus ) means 'fox red'. An English common name is "Blind Prickly Pear".

Opuntia rufida grows shrubby with several main branches and reaches heights of 1 to 1.5 meters. A tribe is rarely trained. The circular, blue-green to gray-green shoot sections are 7.5 to 20 inches long, just as wide and 1 to 1.5 inches thick. The conical leaf rudiments have a length of up to 4.5 millimeters. The circular, 0.5 to 2.5 centimeters apart, areoles have conspicuous, reddish or reddish-brown, slightly sloping glochids , but no thorns .
The initially light yellow flowers later turn orange and reach a length and diameter of 6 to 7.5 centimeters. The fleshy, bright red fruits are ellipsoidal and slightly tuberous. They are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 1.5 to 2 centimeters in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Opuntia rufida is distributed in the United States in the state of Texas and the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Coahuila at altitudes of 600 to 1050 meters.
The first description was published in 1856 by George Engelmann . A synonym is Opuntia microdasys subsp. rufida (Engelm.) U.Guzmán & Mandujano .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
