The Oratoire Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a Catholic church in Ajaccio , the capital of the island of Corsica . It belongs to the diocese of Ajaccio .

It is located in the old town of Ajaccio, on the north side of the Rue du Roi-de-Rome in a corner location on the street Rue Saint-Charles which opens to the west .

Design and history

The oratory was built in 1565. It was the seat of the brotherhood of Saint-Jérôme and Saint-Jean-Baptiste, who cared for the sick. Several members of the Bonaparte family were baptized in the church. However, with the French Revolution , it was converted into a ballroom. After the Concordat of 1801 , the oratory was again used for church purposes.

The church is designed in the mannerist style. The facade is shaped by four pilasters and is crowned by a triangular gable. A tower rises from the northern part of the building.

The interior of the nave is spanned by a vault from the 19th century. There is a stucco high altar .

On September 6, 1985, the oratorio was registered as a Monument historique under the number PA00099068.
