In addition to compositions by Lewis and Schuller, Gary McFarland , Miljenko Prohaska , Hall Overton , Teo Macero , Jimmy Giuffre , Benny Golson , William O. Smith and Hans Werner Henze , works of classical modernism were also performed - by Darius Milhaud , Charles Ives , Igor Stravinsky and Paul Hindemith . Musicians included Eric Dolphy , Jim Hall , Richard Davis , Phil Woods , Leo Wright and guest soloists Benny Golson, Gerry Mulligan and Ornette Coleman . In December 1962, the ensemble and the Modern Jazz Quartet gave their first concert in the New York Philharmonic.
