Organ ( Japanese オ ル ガ ン , Orugan ) is a Japanese horror film from 1996. Directed by Kei Fujiwara , who also plays one of the leading roles.

action

1996: Rival organ dealer gangs rule the streets of Tokyo at night . The two undercover police officers Numata and Tosaka are one of the gangs on the trail. The gang is led by the biology teacher Saeki and his one-eyed sister Yōko. Numata escapes the firefight while Tosaka is captured. However, he is then suspended from the police force. He then returned to the scene of the crime to remember the course of the terrible incident where he happened to meet Tosaka's twin brother. The organ dealers hire a group of subordinates to rape his wife. Having become homeless as a result, Numata tries to investigate on his own. Separately from him, Tosaka's twin brother is also looking for the organ dealers.

Saeki is hiding in his school, where he has set up a room and is keeping Tosaka, who only consists of a torso , alive. But Saeki was also injured, treated his festering abdominal wound himself and pumps himself full of drugs. Meanwhile, Yōko tries to keep the organization upright. Tosaka's twin brother is seriously injured in a pursuit and falls into the hands of the gangsters a little later.

Numata and Tosaka's brother stand for a showdown. The two manage to overwhelm the organization and free Tosaka, who is now vegetating in a coma. His brother is killed by Saeki and Yōko. The two leaders of the organ trafficking escape.

background

Organ by Kei Fujiwara is a body horror film in the style of David Cronenberg's early works. This subgenre was particularly popular in Japan in the 1980s. Fujiwara herself was able to gain relevant experience on the set of the film Tetsuo: The Iron Man , where she worked as an assistant director . There is no continuous plot, instead individual violent elements are lined up in the form of splatter effects and parts of the story are told in obvious (b / w) and less obvious flashbacks.

publication

The film was shown for the first time in German-speaking countries as part of the Fantasy Film Festival in 1999. An official German publication is not available. The Shock Entertainment label released a DVD of the film for the Austrian market in 2006.

The American cult label Synapse films released Organ on May 2, 2000 as part of "The Asian Cult Cinema Collection" on DVD. Another box set release followed in 2005 along with Evil Dead Trap , Entrails Of A Virgin and Entrails Of A Beautiful Woman .

criticism

The general film critics hardly noticed Organ . The film was recorded mixed in gene republications. The visual component and the effect on the audience should be mentioned positively. But precisely these supposed strengths of the film are also denied. One critic criticized the fact that a “multitude of meaningful dialogues, crossed with surreal insertions and tons of Gore effects, do not make an artistically valuable film”.
