The organ and harmonium builder is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code .
Duration of training and structure
The training period for organ and harmonium builder is usually three and a half years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . The profession has two disciplines : organ building and pipe making .
Work areas
Organ and harmonium builders construct organs and harmonies . They design the individual parts, such as the windchest including sticks and register actuation devices , but also the gaming table and housing parts. They make action parts and assemble them. The organ produced in this way is measured and assembled at the organ site. Then they carry out a function test. In the pipe making branch they manufacture the plates for metal pipes. To do this, they have to determine the melting temperature and the alloy in order to subsequently cast the plates. When making labial and lingual pipes, pay attention to scale tables .

There is only one vocational school in Germany , the Oscar-Walcker-Schule in Ludwigsburg .
