Origanum microphyllum is a species of the genus Dost ( Origanum ).

features

Origanum microphyllum is a subshrub that reaches heights of 20 to 50 centimeters. The twigs are thin, clearly square, purple and have backward-facing short bristles. The leaves are egg-shaped, white tomentose and 5 to 13 millimeters in size. The calyx has entire margins, crookedly trimmed and bare. The crown is purple and 3 to 7.5 millimeters in size.

The flowering period is from June to September.

Occurrence

Origanum microphyllum is on Crete in the regional districts Chania , Heraklion and Lasithi endemic . The species grows on the Lefka Ori and Dikti Mountains in open forests, Phrygana and crevices on limestone at altitudes of (50) 400 to 1500 (1800) meters.

Systematics

The species was described by the British botanist George Bentham in 1834 under the taxon Majorana microphylla . The German botanist Julius Rudolph Theodor Vogel assigned the species to the genus Dost ( Origanum ) under the taxon Origanum microphyllum , which is valid today .
