Julius Rudolph Theodor Vogel

Julius Rudolph Theodor Vogel , also Theodor Vogel for short (born July 30, 1812 in Berlin ; † December 17, 1841 in Fernando Póo ), was a German botanist and explorer. Its botanical author's abbreviation is " Vogel ".

Life

Vogel was a private lecturer in Berlin in 1838 and in Bonn from 1839. In 1838 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . He took part in the English Niger expedition in 1841, during which he died on Fernando Póo at the age of 29 that same year.

Honors

The plant genus Vogelocassia Britton from the legume family (Fabaceae) is named after him. The genus Vogelia from the plant family of plumbaginaceae (Plumbaginaceae) may Benedict Christian Vogel (1745-1825) and Rudolph Augustin Vogel been (1724-1774) named in honor.
