Orison Swett Marden (* 1848 in Thornton , New Hampshire , † 1924 ) was an American hotelier and author .

Life

Marden studied at Boston University , where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1877 and graduated with a Master of Arts in 1879 . In the same year he obtained the BO at the School of Oratory . He then attended Boston University Law School. There he earned a Bachelor of Laws in 1881 . At Harvard Medical School , he became a Doctor of Medicine in 1882 . After extensive travels, he returned to the States in 1883 and settled in Kearney (Nebraska) . In 1894 he published his first book Pushing to the Front , which was reprinted several times and translated into 25 languages. Numerous other publications followed. In 1897 he founded Success Magazine with a circulation of over 300,000 copies. He was also vice president of The Success Company. In 1905 he married Clara (or Clare) Evans, with whom he had three children.
