Ormylia ( Greek Ορμύλια , ( f. Sg. ); Official name Dimotiki Enotita Ormylias, Δημοτική Ενότητα Ορμύλιας) is one of the four districts of the municipality of Polygyros on the Halkidiki peninsula in the Greek region of Central Macedonia . It was created in 1997 as an independent municipality within the framework of the Greek local government reform Schedio Kapodistrias by amalgamating the previously independent municipalities and localities Ormylia and Metamorfosi. The administrative seat of this municipality was its largest village Ormylia.

Ormylia extends from the northwestern coast of the Toronean Gulf to the north in the central land of the Chalkidiki peninsula . The area follows the course of the Chavrias river, which flows into the Toronean Gulf at the settlement of Nisi and is the largest river in Chalkidiki. In the summer months with little rainfall, the Chavrias is almost dry, but the amount of water in the other seasons allows intensive agriculture in the Chavrias plain. The village of Ormylia itself is located at the exit of the Chavrias from the southern foothills of the Cholomondas Mountains. To the southwest of Ormylia is the settlement of Psakoudia, which is the tourist center of the municipality on the beach of the same name.

In antiquity, the town (Polis) Sermyle (Sermyli) was located in the municipality. During the era of the Byzantine Empire , the municipality came into the possession of the monasteries of Athos , including the monastery of Vatopedi, and was used by them as an agricultural property. The settlements of Vatopedi and Metamorfosi emerged after the Greek defeat in the Greco-Turkish War in 1922 and the population exchange between Greece and Turkey associated with the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 : Greek refugees from Asia Minor and the Black Sea founded the two villages.

The economy of Ormylia is dominated by agriculture in the plain of the Chavrias river. Tourism is also becoming increasingly important.

There are two Greek Orthodox monasteries in the Ormylias area: Evangelismos tis Theotokou (women's monastery) and Osios Arsenios (men's monastery), which were only founded in the late 20th century.
