The cargo steamer Orrik was built in Denmark in 1884/85. Although it sank in 1902 after a collision in the port of Hamburg , it remained in service for another 48 years after it was lifted.

history

The construction of the Orrik began in 1884 at A / S Jærnskibs- og Maskinbyggeri / Helsingør Vaerft in Helsingør . The prime mover was a compound steam engine with an output of 225 horsepower , which was also supplied by the shipyard. The iron-built ship with hull number 9 was launched on January 15, 1885 and on February 27 of the same year the ship was sold to its client, Det jydsk-engelske Dampskibs-Selskab / E. Bergmann to be delivered in Aarhus .

On November 1, 1896, the British steamer Seamew , which went on the river Elbe, collided with the Orrik , which was anchored in Neumühlen . This then had to be towed to Hamburg for repairs due to water ingress. The ship sailed from 1900 to 1910 for the Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab shipping company . In 1902 the Orrik collided with the Reichspostdampfer Preussen in the Port of Hamburg and sank as a result. After the ship had been lifted and repaired, it was operated by its first shipping company until 1910, had another accident and was sold to AT Agafelov in 1911, who continued to operate it until 1923 under the name Maria . After another sale, the ship ran as Gaida from 1923 to 1946 . After the end of the war, the Soviet Navy operated her for another four years as an auxiliary ship in Ventspils and decommissioned her in 1950. It was canceled in the 1950s.
