Orson Welles is an impact crater on Mars . It was named after the American film director, actor and writer Orson Welles in 2003 .

The crater has a diameter of 116 km. It is located in the highlands of Xanthe Terra directly on the equator, partly within the Lunae Palus - and the Coprates-Gradfeld . Chaotic terrain inside is the source of the Shalbatana Vallis .
