Coprates (Gradfeld)

The Coprates - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-18, the degree field covers the area from 45 ° to 90 ° west longitude and from −30 ° to 0 ° south latitude . It is known for the "Grand Canyon of Mars", the Valles Marineris Canyon system.

The name comes from a river of the same name in the ancient Persian Empire , which Diodorus mentions in his historical work.
