Iapygia (Gradfeld)

The Iapygia - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-21, the degree field covers the area from 270 ° to 315 ° west longitude and from −30 ° to 0 ° south latitude .

The name is derived from an ancient name for Apulia , the land of the Japygians .

geography

Parts of Tyrrhena Terra and Terra Sabaea are in the Iapygia area. The largest impact crater is Huygens ; Dykes are an interesting phenomenon . Remnants of Dykes can be found near Huygens Crater, particularly in the south, which used to be below the surface but are now eroded . A clear stratification can be seen in many places . There are different impact craters, such as B. Huygens Crater, Meteor Crater, and Winslows Crater. The layer formation can sometimes be clearly seen in them.
