List of degree fields on Mars
The surface of Mars was divided into 30 degree fields by the United States Geological Survey . They were called "degree fields" because their borders run along the longitude and latitude and therefore appear square on maps (with the appropriate map projection , which is not useful in the vicinity of the poles). The individual degree fields are named according to their local properties and numbered MC-1 to MC-30, MC stands as an abbreviation for "Mars Chart".
