Amenthes (Gradfeld)

The Amenthes - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-14, the degree field covers the area from 225 ° to 270 ° west longitude and from 0 ° to 30 ° south latitude .

The name is derived from Amenthes , the realm of the dead in ancient Egyptian mythology . The Gradfeld contains the Isidis Basin, a location where the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter where magnesium carbonates were found. This mineral indicates that there was water there and that it was not acidic / acidic. The Beagle 2 lander was scheduled to land in the eastern part of Isidis Planitia in December 2003 , but contact was lost on the approach. In January 2015, NASA reported that Beagle 2 was found there ( 11 ° 31 ′ 35.4 ″  N , 90 ° 25 ′ 46.2 ″  E ).
